Instructions

Crumble topping

  • Carefully melt the butter in the microwave on the soft/melt setting and set aside.
  • Mix the rolled oats, oat flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, and melted butter in a medium-sized bowl.
  • Once thoroughly combined, place the bowl with the crumble in the refrigerator until needed.

    Apple filling:

    • Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish and preheat the oven to 375°F or 190°C.
    • Then peel, slice, and cube the apples and place them into a big mixing bowl.
    • Add the dark brown sugar, melted butter, milk, oat flour, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
    • Pour the apple mixture into the greased baking dish and level it with a spoon.
    • Take the crumble topping out of the refrigerator. The butter hardened, but that is ok. Use a spoon to loosen it up and break it into smaller chunks.
    • Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple filling.
    • Bake for 35-40 minutes until the filling is bubbly and the topping golden brown.
    • Let the Apple Cinnamon Crisp sit for 20 minutes before eating.
    • Serve it with a scoop (or two) of your favorite ice cream. Enjoy!

      Notes

      Tips:
➙ If you don’t have oat flour, you can add rolled oats to a blender and blend until they resemble a fine floury texture.
➙ Peel the apples!! I like to use my vegetable peeler to peel the apples; it works like a charm! Of course, you could leave the skin on, but removing it makes for a much smoother texture.
➙ Cut the apples into even wedges and dice each wedge into smaller pieces! Having uniform apple pieces will give you an even.
➙ After mixing the melted butter with the crumble topping, place the topping in the refrigerator until needed. This will harden the butter slightly, and you can break it into perfect chunks (with a spoon or your fingers) to add on top of the apples when needed.
➙ You can also add cranberries or raisins to the apple filling, or if you like some extra crunch, add nuts.
➙ Cover leftovers and place them in the fridge for up to 3 days.
