Thank you for stopping by my blog. I appreciate your time and hope I will make it worthwhile!

I assume you find an interest in baking and want to learn more? Maybe accumulate new techniques and gather cool tricks? Or would you like to see some inspiration? Or are you bored and think this person looks interesting 😄 Well, perfect!

I was born and raised in Switzerland, where I used to work as a pastry chef and a professional baker for nine years.

Baking runs in our family. My Great Grandfather had his own bakery. My Granddad was also a baker, but unfortunately, he was too young when his dad passed away to take over the bakery. Had he been able to get the bakery from his dad, who knows, maybe now I would be the bakery owner. One can dream, right?!

If you have traveled to Switzerland, I’m sure you have experienced the wide variety of bakeries they have at every corner. When you walk into the store, the smell of freshly baked bread never gets old. I want to help you make your home smell like a small bakery, and along the way, I’m almost certain that I will have a trick or two up my sleeves to help you bake like a pro.

On a related note, I love seeing the goodies you are creating. If you have a minute, it will make my day if you tag @mirjamskitchenyodel on Instagram or Facebook or pin it away on Pinterest.

Why blogging?

Globi birthday cake for my son

I LOVE to bake – baking is my passion! My hands have created thousands of bread loaves, croissants, pastries, cakes, desserts, you name it. I would love to share what I have learned and developed all those years working in different bakeries. You will find everything from simple recipes to more complex ideas on my blog. (Still, steadily building more content).

Family and friends have told me to start sharing my recipes for a long time. People ask me for the recipe whenever I bake something for guests or bring a baked good to a gathering. That got me thinking, why not share them on a blog? Now everybody can enjoy them, and I don’t have to share my recipes several times individually. Win-win!

Like the all-time favorite, Sunday Bread – Zopf. I get asked for that recipe all the time!

Being a military wife, with my husband working crazy hours and away for training or deployed often, and being a mom of three little boys: life gets pretty busy. But I have this great excuse to get creative in the kitchen to deliver some new content for you (and my boys are always so excited to help and, most of all, taste everything).

My goal is to provide you with a wide variety of recipes. And that I can inspire and challenge you with specific ideas. Who isn’t up for a good old challenge now and then?

Swiss Miss in the USA

Perfect bluebird day in the Swiss Alps.

Growing up in Switzerland, I naturally love the mountains and snow. It’s the best feeling standing on top of a mountain and skiing down a freshly groomed slope. But, yes, I’m not a powder girl 😉.

Still, to this day, when snow is in the forecast, I’d wake up several times a night to check how much it snowed already!

The world is so magical when it is covered in snow. Going outside, walking in fresh snow, and hearing it crunch under your boots is pure happiness to me! Going out in nature, camping, or hiking is the perfect way to recharge my batteries.

My USA journey started 11 years ago in Chicago when I became an Au-Pair. After one year in Chicago, I moved to Colorado for a new adventure (the mountains and skiing) and to join a new host family. Towards the end of my second year, I met an extraordinary guy – hint – he is now my husband. I moved back to Switzerland after my two-year Au-pair journey. We dated long-distance for two years (one year out of it as a married couple).

About seven years ago, I moved to the USA for good. We have lived in many different places and states in those seven years. Of course, military life brings its challenges, but it’s always exciting to move somewhere new and discover other parts of the United States.
